Natural EMFs
Electromagnetic Fields have always been present on Earth in their natural state. These naturally occurring EMFs include the Earth’s magnetic field, Schumann Resonances (lightning discharges), solar EMFs and atmospheric EMFs. Most natural EMFs have a Direct Current (DC) which means they are constant or change very slowly over time. These include the Earth, sun and lightning. This differs from artificial EMFs (human made sources, such as powerlines and electronics), which have an Alternating Current (AC) meaning they oscillate or alternate direction rapidly, typically at specific frequencies.
Since living organisms do not have defenses for variations greater than around 20% in natural EMFs, it is realistic to expect they do not have defenses for man made EMFs, which vary unpredictably with variations close to 100%.
Natural EMFs play a significant role in the way living organisms (such as plants, animals, and humans!) function and interact with the world. These interactions form part of biological processes, such as:
- Synchronising circadian rhythms
- Orientation and balance
- Cellular function
However, our modern lifestyle significantly reduces our exposure to and interaction with natural EMFs, and this can have a negative impact on our health and wellbeing. But, there are many simple ways we can ensure we are connecting with these valuable natural fields on a daily basis.

Here are 10 ways to reconnect with natural EMFs today:
- Practicing grounding: Walk barefoot on grass, sand or soil for 10-30 minutes daily
- Spend time in natural environments: Take regular walks in parks, forests, beaches or gardens
- Get morning sunlight: Aim to be outside within 30-60 minutes of waking up
- Sleep closer to the earth when possible: Sleep on the ground while camping or use natural fiber mattresses
- Practice meditation or yoga outdoors: Meditating or practicing breathwork on grass or dirt barefoot enhances your electrical connection to the earth
- Create EMF-Free zones: Turn off Wi-Fi routers, mobile phones, and Bluetooth devices at night
- Swim in natural bodies of water: Lakes, oceans, rivers and mineral springs conduct the Earth’s natural energies
- Minimise EMF ‘Blockers’: Choose leather or natural fiber shoes instead of rubber-soled ones and avoid synthetic flooring indoors, rugs or mats made from wool, jute or cotton allow better conductivity
- Engage with animals and plants: Caring for pets or gardening barefoot is a way to ‘tune in’ to natural EMFs
- Take digital detox breaks: Regularly disconnect from electronic devices to give your nervous system a break from artificial EMFs. Use the time to walk outdoors, take a nap under a tree, or do manual tasks with bare hands
As you make more of a conscious effort to engage with natural EMFs, it is important to also be mindful of ways you can limit your exposure to artificial EMF sources. This is where we can help you. Click here to find out more about our home assessment services.
