5 Common Sources of EMFs in Your Home And Simple Ways to Decrease Them

In our modern society we rely heavily on technology and electronic devices to function in our daily lives. But, with growing awareness around the impacts of EMF exposure it is important to understand common sense ways to keep ourselves protected and safely engaging with these technologies.

The home is typically the environment that you have the greatest control over, so it is a good starting point for decreasing your daily EMF exposures. Let’s have a look at five of the most common sources of EMFs in your home and simple choices you can make to decrease your exposure every day.

Wifi Routers

Wifi routers are constantly working to maintain internet connections to your devices, saturating you and your family in EMFs. Being in close proximity to routers for extended periods of time can have a negative impact on your health and wellbeing. Hiring a professional to have your devices wired through ethernet cables, eliminating the need for wireless internet, is a simple way to mitigate concerns caused by wifi routers.

Bedside lamps

Whilst bedside lamps are great for winding down before bed, they can be emitting unwanted EMFs and electric fields throughout the night as you sleep. It is best to unplug the bedside lamps from the powerpoint (not just switching it off) while you sleep and avoid charging other devices on your nightstand during the night.

Alarm clocks

Alarm clocks that are plugged into a powerpoint are constantly emitting high EMFs, and this is not what you want right beside your pillow while you sleep. Choose a battery powered alarm clock instead.

Mobile phones

Mobile phones are typically our most used device and also the biggest culprit when it comes to daily EMF exposures. To decrease the effects of EMFs from your phone, always use the speakerphone and do not carry your phone on your body (such as in pockets or tucked into your waistband). If you need to use headphones, make sure they are wired.

Cooking appliances

Electric cooking appliances can emit high levels of EMFs when in use and this is something you need to be aware of if you spend a lot time cooking at the stove while your oven is running beneath it. A simple way to lessen the impact of EMF exposure in the kitchen involves standing away from appliances that are in use while you are preparing food, such as ovens, and keeping a minimum 3 meters distance when the microwave oven is on.
